Bishop Lanier C. Twyman, Sr.
Pastor
Bishop Lanier C. Twyman, Sr. is the Senior Pastor of the St. Stephen Baptist Church, Temple Hills, Maryland. He is married to the former Tonya Garnes, and is the proud father of three sons, Lanier Jr., Joshua and James.
A native Washingtonian, Bishop Twyman has a degree in Business Management from the University of the District of Columbia, a Biblical Studies degree from Andersonville Baptist Seminary. Bishop matriculated at the Graduate School of Theological Studies which provided him opportunities to study on the campuses of Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Emory Universities.
God continues to enlarge Bishop’s mission-related territory. He was chosen to participate in the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Pastoral Excellence Program (PEP) and traveled on mission trips to Guyana, Jamaica and Italy. His passion for international missions caused him to lead impactful mission trips to Peru, Ghana and Uganda.
Bishop Twyman serves as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Bishop in the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship; his jurisdictional responsibilities are Washington, D.C., Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. He is a Board member of the Temple Hills Coalition of Pastors, and a member of the Missionary Baptist Ministers’ Conference. He also serves on the St. Jude Sunday of Hope Board of Advisories for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Before Bishop was called to Pastor the St. Stephen Baptist Church, and because of his continual quest for lost souls, he founded the Mountain Top Ministries (MTM) more than 25 years ago. MTM is an urban outreach ministry that serves and evangelizes in homeless shelters and nursing homes, and is currently an arm of the fifty-plus ministries that comprise the St. Stephen Baptist Church.
Bishop Twyman is a sought-after gifted preacher and teacher, as he is well-respected in the religious and civic communities throughout the country. His life Scripture is Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
